"When so I ponder, here apart, what shallow boons suffice my heart, what dust-bound trivia capture me,
I marvel at my normalcy."--Dorothy Parker

nothing but nest

the way we were

For months my head has been spinning, spinning with images of wallpaper, knobs, lamps, pillows, paint colors, and wood samples. In addition to the usual pending list of decor projects--suddenly urgent because I feel like I won't get to any of them if not now--the imminent arrival of a new little bundle of joy is necessitating big changes to our small space; in this case, a room reversal. Violet and her new big girl bed will go into the pink room, all the while complaining that the walls are not light pink. I am trying to convince her that they are, in spite of spending the last five years calling them Morristown Cream, as Benjamin Moore does, so as to appease my husband. The wall of cabinets in Violet's room, moved from the other room during our initial renovation five years ago, is being replaced by a bigger, custom wall of cabinets with a built-in desk.  One of the three rugs we have in storage will go on the floor (I vote zebra) and a louis ghost chair has been acquired, the only furniture that our tiny new room will accomodate beyond a queen-sized bed.  I am on the hunt for reclaimed wood shutters for the windows. But what to do with the walls? Paint or wallpaper? Art? My years as an art advisor mean no art, ironically, so it will be one of the first two options. I want wallpaper, but it is a beast to choose for a bedroom, where I prefer a soothing, airy, sophisticated atmosphere, and nothing matronly. In addition to my own list of resources, compiled when I papered our closets five years ago (I was too chicken to do more), I have been relying on one from Design Sponge, found here.

I'll post "after" shots in a few weeks, assuming this pressure in my hips does not mean our baby boy is about to make an early appearance...

sounds like a decision has already been made but I'm a huge fan of Schumacher.. so that's my vote! Or the cut-out lace looks interesting too. I'm so bad an envisioning what a whole wall of it would look like! :)

Hope that pressure subsides! Can't wait to see you (and maybe baby boy) in Dec...

Ohhh, I just love your apt. Can't wait to hear about Baby Roberts-Ogilive's arrival! Esp. what name you choose (ah, why are boys so hard?).
