"When so I ponder, here apart, what shallow boons suffice my heart, what dust-bound trivia capture me,
I marvel at my normalcy."--Dorothy Parker

up north

And then we were off again, this time into America's Heartland, where baseball, cousins, and a week by the lake awaited us.

There was a time, well before I married my own Minnesota boy, when I thought I might end up in the Twin Cities. I spent a couple of summers there in college, taking long runs around the lakes, hanging out at Cafe Latte, going to independent films  Uptown. The weekend I got married I had to cancel my previous plans to go portaging in the Boundary Waters with my best friend's three very good-looking brothers. That was nine years ago today, in fact.

I knew I would make up for it eventually.
